Penn Dermatology Nurse Arrested for Secretly Video Recording Patients.

We are currently pursuing claims for victims of this perverted crime. While the criminal case is in the early stages against James Close. We are looking to hold Penn Dermatology accountable for allowing this male nurse to use his phone to record naked women during treatments.

The issue came to light after a 17-year-old patient noticed a phone on the ground while she was naked in a phototherapy booth. Mr. Close was arrested in February on numerous charges related to the illegal video recordings.

Penn has apparently reached out to many of the victims to discuss the situation, but it is unclear whether they know who all the victims are. According to police, investigators found more than a dozen videos on the suspect’s phone of the one teenage girl and multiple videos of other patients.

We are recommending clients not have further communications with Penn officials regarding the crime.

Mr. Close had been an employee of Penn for a number of years and worked in Philadelphia before taking his position a Penn Dermatology in Newtown, PA. It is concerning that Mr. Close had unsupervised access to unclothed female patients.  Medical facilities have an obligation to protect their patient’s privacy. Certainly, this type of invasion of privacy can be emotional distressing and raises concerns about the facility’s conduct in addition to crime.
